KAYA Endorses Jane Kim for San Francisco Supervisor of District 6!
KAYA – Filipino Americans for Progress is proud to announce our endorsement of Jane Kim for San Francisco Supervisor of District 6. Last week, KAYA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter members began hitting the pavement in walked precincts to support Jane Kim. This will be the first of many actions as a result of KAYA’s endorsement.
We support Jane because we believe she is the candidate that will best understand and serve the needs of the constituents of District 6, which has a significantly large Filipino American community. Her work in a variety of settings has consistently demonstrated that she is Asian American ally who will continue to support our community as we face a multitude of issues.
Jane’s experience includes working as a civil rights attorney and serving as President of the San Francisco School Board, to which she was elected to in 2006.
With the current debates around redevelopment in San Francisco, we are confident that Jane’s background as a community organizer for Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) will fairly address the need to support affordable housing for our community.
Additionally, her accomplishments include working directly with the Filipino American community such as: supporting the openings of the Filipino Community Center in the Excelsior district and Manilatown Heritage Foundation, defending San Francisco’s inclusion of the ethnic studies curriculum in K-12, and fighting the the battle to preserve Bindlestiff Studio, a hub of Filipino American arts.
Dexter Ligot-Gordon expresses his support as a District 6 resident, “I organized with Jane on several campaigns to ensure equity and diversity in public policy. She has been an advocate for Filipino youth through her support of the Filipino Education Center and Bessie Carmichael School. And she’s promoted Filipino American arts through her work with Locus Art and Kearney Street Workshop. She has been and will continue to be an effective advocate for the Filipino American community in the district. She is the best person to make sure our voice is represented in City Hall.”
